“So Tas... when’s the next DPnP coming?”
Not the first time I’ve been asked this question of late, and coincidentally, I had the very same question in mind.
In case this is your first time hearing about DPnPs, they are dynamic print-and-play games where the game sheets can be configured before you print. Different layouts, setups, maps, conditions, and all that juicy stuff. Kudos to the couple of minds behind these DPnPs, Robin Metz and Jack Chapman from Pagepunk!
Ever since I played BYTE:SHIFT and Mïnomancer, the two DPnP games Pagepunk released so far, this experimental format of print-and-play has been living rent free in my head. And apparently, based on the recent queries, not just mine.
And that makes me really happy. It means these games didn’t just get me excited. They got many of you curious too.
So for the sake of all of our curiosity, I reached out to Robin to ask when the next one is dropping.
And lucky for us, really soon!
The next Dynamic Print-and-Play is called Of Wheat and Wonders, and it launches in about three weeks.
From what I’ve seen so far, we are looking at a little civilization game. You are building and managing your own tiny civilization, exploring the map, developing cities, gathering resources, unlocking actions, chasing achievements, and working through different scenarios.
It has hex-style maps, development cards, special actions, different objectives, and that classic civilization-game premise of starting small, then slowly watching your little world grow.
About the reconfigurable game sheets: From what I understand, both the map sheet and the civilization sheet can be reconfigured, so brace yourself for infinite adventures!
It’s also great to see the number of people keeping an eye on these games growing with each campaign. Of Wheat and Wonders already has close to 450 followers, which is a pretty sweet sign that folks are not only noticing this format, but actively waiting for more of it.
Print-and-plays have always been a beautiful space for experimentation. And had Robin and Jack not tried something different, we would not have this little DPnP realm to get excited about right now!
So maybe that’s the food for thought today: Never hesitate to do something out of the box.
Sometimes, almost always... that’s exactly where the good stuff is waiting!
