The 50th Issue on PnP Games

A small milestone, a big thank you, and what comes next

In partnership with

Woohoo! šŸŽ‰

This is the 50th issue on PnP games, and honestly, that still feels a bit unreal to type out.

Fifty issues in less than a year is a big deal for me. What started as a simple idea to talk about print-and-play games slowly turned into a rhythm, a growing community, and something I genuinely look forward to working on every single issue.

So for this little milestone, I just want to give something back to the community that’s been reading, replying, voting, and quietly cheering this newsletter on.

Here’s what I’ve got for you:

šŸ“¬ A newsletter worth checking out

If you’ve ever thought about designing your own game, or even just toyed with the idea, there’s a Substack I think you’ll genuinely appreciate.

Making Games by Chris Backe is packed with thoughtful, practical writing about what it actually takes to design games. Chris covers things like mechanics, playtesting, design mindset, and lessons pulled straight from his own projects.

If you’re interested in making games, feel free to subscribe to his newsletter!

šŸŽ² A game I haven’t played yet… but really admire

I haven’t played this one yet. That said, I’ve watched Joe (joe_plays_games) go live on Instagram multiple times, playing his game Word Dungeon and actively engaging with the audience. Watching him tweak, iterate, and improve the experience in real time really stood out to me.

That kind of open, player-facing development is always a good sign, and it’s something I love seeing more designers lean into.

If you’re curious, keep an eye out! The campaign for Word Dungeon will go live on Jan 30, and it’s definitely worth checking out.

šŸŽ A small thank you!

To celebrate issue #50, I wanted to share a little something of my own. So for the next couple of days, Escape the Living Library is 50% off!

Just a genuine thank-you for being part of this journey, whether you’ve been here since the early days or joined somewhere along the way. The offer won’t be around for long, so if you’ve been on the fence, now’s a great time!

šŸ—³ļø Help shape what comes next

Before I wrap this up, I’d love your input!
