Ever Saved a Life... on Paper?

Deep dive into a game so immersive it stole my breath.

Saving a life on a game feels different.

I'm not talking about fleeing from zombies, or escaping a deadly dungeon. I'm talking about saving human lives.

Of course, not literally, but when you're in the zone. It feels much more real than it should.

It all started when Radek, a friend and an incredibly talented game designer, mentioned he's consulting doctors and anesthesiologists to design a medical game. That immediately caught me off guard. Anyone can make a medical-themed game, but someone who’s collecting notes straight from the experts for a print-and-play? That’s new. That’s commitment. The kind of grit that usually leads to something special.

So of course, I had to try it. I had to print out Call The Doctor.

Call The Doctor isn’t flashy. It hits you with this quiet sort of intensity. Each patient feels like a new story waiting to unfold, whether it’s an appendix operation, a gunshot wound, or something far more demanding. The game lets you conduct an operation, step by step. Anesthesia. Incision. Stabilization. Tools. Medications. It’s straightforward on the surface, but every choice matters.

I won’t go too deep here (that’s what full reviews are for), but the way the game captures tension is impressive. You’re juggling vitals, monitoring subtle changes, making calls before things get out of hand. One wrong move, one delayed reaction, and everything spirals faster than you’d expect.

By the end of my first session, I realized the game didn’t just made me think. It made me live through the intensity of an operating theatre, recognize the uncertainty, and feel the weight that medical professionals carry…

And that’s why it’s easily one of the most in-depth PNP experiences I’ve had all year!
