Ever had an annoying client?

A game about designing a garden for picky nobles

In partnership with

Ever had a picky client?

The kind who asks for small tweaks. The kind who wants everything to be just right.

If you haven’t (are you sure?), now you will. And contrary to the usual, you’ll enjoy it this time.

Enter: Château Gardens

In this flip-and-write, you step into the shoes of an architect in 18th-century France, tasked with designing the perfect garden for some very particular nobles.

Your tools?

+ A single sheet.
+ A pencil.
+ A standard deck of playing cards.

Each card you flip tells you what to draw:

10 The number on the card determines the size of the shapes.
♣️ The suit determines the shape of the polyomino.
K The face cards introduce their own twists, pushing you to think differently about placement.

You draw polyominoes on your sheet, slowly building out a garden that needs to stay efficient, connected, and most importantly… high scoring.

It is not just polyominoes either. You need to add the noble’s viewing platform too, and place it in a way that combos well with the elements already in your garden.

The deck introduces the variety.
But the decisions? Those are entirely yours.

+ Where you place each shape matters.
+ How you connect sections matters.
+ When to push for points or set things up matters even more.

Also, the experience shifts depending on who you play it with.

On your own, it feels calm. Just you, your sheet, and a steady flow of decisions as the garden takes shape.

Put more architects at the table and the tempo shifts. Everyone is watching/ruining each other’s progress. Trying to grab bonuses and stay ahead.

One thing I really appreciated: The game sheet carries the references right on it, so you are not flipping through a manual every turn.

Small tip: Use a pencil on a printed sheet. There is something about drawing those shapes with a pencil that makes the whole experience feel more real. Like an architect!
