A Dice for my Valentine!
With 14th Feb only a few days away from us, what’s your plan?
Of course, I’m aware that the readers will be divided into two groups- one having plans, while the other scoffing at the topic of this week’s newsletter. But worry not, I have a plan that works for both sides!
Confession
I am a BIG fan of customizing games. Every time I play a PnP game, more often than not I end up modifying some part of it to see if it enhances the game experience. And it worked pretty well for most of the games that I tried so far.
So for this year’s Valentine’s, I’m planning to customize one of my favorite PnP games, Lantern! For those who are genuinely interested in trying this simple yet highly meaningful tweak of the game, follow the steps that I’m about to share. As for those without a date, you can try it regardless! Just, of course, without the essence of romance.
If you get this right, your date will be thoroughly impressed.
Plus, you might even spark his/her interest in your love for games.
Win-win!
For reference, say hello to my date- Isabelle. And it’s my task to woo her with the world of print-and-play!

Customized Bosses for Lantern!
Lantern
It’s a game that can easily be taught in less than 5 minutes. And it’s highly entertaining. And the best part? It can be modified with ease.
The game involves the player encountering and defeating 7 enemies, so I listed and sketched out 7 people in Isabelle’s life who give her a tough time. Be it her math lecturer, annoying neighbor, or her little brother- I turned them into 7 evil bosses that she had to take down. Is it romantic? Not entirely, but it’s fun!
She had a blast rolling the dice and taking down the enemies that existed in her real life. It was a good way for her to unwind, and laugh at the silly troubles that life throws at her. And that was sort of romantic if you ask me. Caring to say the least.
Needless to say, she was quite impressed!
All you have to do:
Learn how to play Lantern, if you haven’t already
Print out the game. It’s only a page! Laminate it, for durability.
Draw 7 characters on an art card or any sturdy board. It does not have to be perfect! Stick them on the playing surface on top of the existing evil bosses in the game.
Be a good Game Master! Narrate her game journey, and praise her after taking down the villains of her everyday life.
I contributed to the Lantern PnP game by submitting a kickass colored version, you can download the file for free, and play on it!

Now, if you are up for a longer session with multiple games in the plan, then read my article where I customized 3 games (including Lantern) for my date.
All the best! Share images with me if you try it- [email protected]
Till next week!
