A 10-minute duel you’ve never heard of

Two cards. A few dice. And it’s free.

If you’ve been following my PnP journey, you know my comfort zone. Solo games.

But every now and then, I step outside that zone and try 1v1, or group games. Quickdraw was an absolute blast for me at the start of this year, while what followed it is something that was launched over a year ago.

A tiny little 1v1 dice combat microgame that hit way harder than its footprint suggests. And it's quite underrated.

It's called Krig.

It's fast, competitive, and fits easily into 5 to 10 minute intervals of practically anything you were up to. It scratched that itch I had when I first tried it: quick games with a decent mix of luck and strategy.

Of course, luck is in the room. Dice are dice. But this one gives you enough control to feel clever. You’re constantly choosing how to approach the fight. Play it safe. Go full offense. Turtle up and punish mistakes. Mix it all up. There’s no one-strategy-fits-all here. If you autopilot, you get punished. If you adjust, you start winning. Simple.

My friends and I ran multiple rounds in an hour, and it kept getting better as we learned the tempo. Most rounds wrapped in about 10 minutes, and a decent bunch of them ended with that perfect little one more feeling.

The cards are pretty cool, and practically beg to be rethemed. If you’re the type who likes tinkering, you’ll see the same thing I did. This could wear a hundred different skins and still work.

If you want something you can print, learn, play, and teach in minutes, this is an easy recommendation.

It’s free on Itch; more specifically, it’s pay what you want. So you can grab it for nothing and try it with a buddy. If it clicks for you, consider chipping in if you can. Supporting a gifted creator for a game that earns its keep in 10 minutes feels like a pretty good trade.
